Arab artists throughout the area have just recently gathered to London town to take part in the 3rd edition of London Gallery Weekend from June 2 to 4. It was a free-to-attend three-day annual event where London’s galleries opened their doors for prolonged hours.
Amongst the artists who displayed their work was Nour Joauda, a Libyan artist based between Cairo and London. Bringing something distinct to the art world, Jaouda’s art focuses on using fabrics from found pieces of linen or cotton canvas, ripping them up, dying or painting them and then sewing them entirely to develop intricate multi-layered artwork.
Her work mixes together lots of themes consisting of that of cities, areas, migration and identity especially through making use of mixed fabrics and even curtain tassels. The distinct nature of her art work captured her a location among Frieze magazine’s “Best Shows at London Gallery Weekend” list. In addition to the London Gallery Weekend, her work will continue to be on display screen at Union Pacific till July 8.
Signing up with the Arab artist is Nour Mobarak, an Egyptian-born artist who is known to take advantage of uncommon compounds to develop distinct sculptures including mycelium, mushrooms, body compounds and industrial residues. For the London Gallery Weekend, the artist regurgitated her unique use of products, developing sculptural renditions of Apollo, Cupid, Dafne, Venus and 9 extra figures. Simply as with Jaouda, Mobarak was also celebrated and added onto Frieze publication’s list.
